This morning my boyfriend had to get up early for work, and I could not fall back asleep so I decided that I would have a nice quiet lazy morning. Now the question was what to do with my alone time.
We had moved the bed out into the living room last night so we could watch a DVD and fall asleep after a long week. So as I'm lying in bed looking at the TV I started to have flashbacks to our TV class the yesterday morning. We were talking about sound and got into a conversation about theme songs that make you feel something and you instantly recognize, for me that song is My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion for the movie Titanic.
I knew then that I would be putting on Titanic.
Titanic is one of my favorite movies ever. When I was in school I would watch it every time I had to stay home sick. I would spend weekends watching this movie. I have watched it so many times that I know all the lines and have been known to recite entire sections from the movie when something reminds me of it.
For example last May I traveled to Chicago with some of my CreComm buddies and on the way home we drove past Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. For those of you who don't know Chippewa Falls is where Leonardo DiCaprio's character Jack Dawson is from. Anyway Amanda noticed where we were and decided to wake me up to inform me that we had just driven past Chippewa Falls, and in return I recited the entire part of Jack's speech to Rose (played by Kate Winslet) where he is trying to convince her that she should not jump off the back of the ship.
Ironically that part of the movie happens to be on my television as I'm typing this.
People make jokes about me all the time because Titanic is one of my favorite movies, but I still think it is one of the best movies ever. Why do I love this movie? I have always been in love with the Titanic. I own a small library of Titanic books and have not stopped collecting them to this day. But I also love the love story aspect of the movie. Without a doubt Titanic is one of the best love stories ever created. Every little girl dreams of going on a great adventure and falling in love with a handsome stranger who saves her life (twice in this case) and he changes her life. Only when I dreamt of this the cute guy doesn't die before our lives really get started. But I think Jack's death adds to the story. A tragic ending to a tragic story has much more of an impact then everyone living happily ever after. Especially when dealing with a piece of history that didn't end happily ever after.
I also love the soundtrack to the movie. It fits so perfectly with the constantly changing feelings the audience feels. And the fact that most of the soundtrack has no words makes it more powerful, you completely focus on the story and are not distracted by what the singer is trying to say.
I love this movie so much that I own two copies of the DVD, four copies of the VHS, both CDs of the soundtrack and various posters.
I remember as if it were yesterday waiting to see this movie in theatres.
I waited for weeks, it seemed like months to finally get to see Titanic. One day when we were going to see the movie, I remember waiting in line with my mom to buy advanced tickets and they had sold out. I was so upset, but it made the excitement of finally getting to see the movie so much stronger. I even remember the drive to the theatre with my mom, her friends Monica and Marianne and my friend Julia. The adults even let me and Julia sit a row in front of them. I cried when Jack died the first time I watched it and still every time I watch Titanic I cry... only now I get mad first that they both don't get on that door.
Everything about this movie makes me happy. I truly believe that this movie makes a lazy day simply perfect, and of course with any great movie goes a great grilled cheese sandwich.
Take the time to enjoy the simple things in life, like a good movie and a good sandwich.

Changing Times, Changing Blog
Welcome to my new blog. Since starting the new school year I thought it is time to get a fresh start with life... including my blog.
Life as a young student is an ever changing business. I am always coming across a new issue to deal with, always trying out new and sometimes exciting things and basically just trying to live life and come out alive while enjoy each new experience.
I am going to use this blog to discuss issues that come up in the world, with school and in my life. I will also discuss new and interesting things, along with the struggles that come with first living on your own. Basically I'm going to write to you about things I find interesting in hopes some of you will find them interesting as well.
I will leave you today with a quote I once read that I think shows us a great life lesson. " Don't worry about doing everything right in life, you'll never get out alive."
This quote reminds me to always enjoy the little things and don't worry about the things you cannot change.
Cheers.
